Northward Grants · Nonprofit & Charity Funding Advisory

Strategic funding, approached with clarity.

Northward Grants helps Canadian nonprofits, charities and mission-driven organizations find the right funding — from foundations, governments and corporate funders — prepare stronger applications, build credible budgets, and manage reporting after the award. Eligible businesses are welcome too.

The introductory call is complimentary, with no obligation.

  • Defined scope

Scope and fees agreed in writing before we start.

  • Transparent fees

You know how an engagement is priced before it begins.

  • No false promises

Only the funder can say yes — we won't pretend otherwise.

  • Straight answers

If a program isn't worth your time, that's the advice.

How it works

A process that starts where you are

Every engagement begins with a complimentary introductory conversation. Depending on your needs, we may recommend a detailed funding assessment, a specific application engagement, or ongoing advisory support.

  1. 1

    Introductory Call

A complimentary conversation about your organization, your plans and any funding work already done — so we can recommend the right starting point.

  2. 2

    The Right Starting Point

A detailed funding assessment, a specific application engagement, or ongoing advisory — whichever fits where you are. Assessment is optional, not a gate.

  3. 3

    Scoped Engagement

Applications, budgets, strategy or standing advisory — scope and fees agreed in writing before anything starts.

  4. 4

    Reporting & Follow-through

Reporting calendars, deadline tracking and preparation support to keep post-award obligations on schedule — with the next opportunity planned early.

The Funding Assessment — optional

Several hours of expert research, delivered in writing

Not sure which funders fit, or where to start? The assessment is real research — program guidelines read literally, your eligibility assessed against their published criteria, your financials reviewed — condensed into a report you can act on. If your funding needs are already clear, we can go straight to an application or advisory engagement. You’ll receive:

  • Eligibility review against the published criteria of relevant government, foundation and corporate programs
  • Funding roadmap with sequenced intakes and timing
  • An honest read on how competitive each opportunity is likely to be
  • Documentation requirements for each recommended program
  • A clear go / no-go recommendation
  • Everything in a written report your team keeps

If you engage us afterward, the assessment becomes the foundation for the work — nothing is researched twice. Final eligibility and funding decisions always rest with the funder.

Three ways to work together

Each can begin with a complimentary introductory call. No assessment is required to start an application or advisory engagement.

  1. A. Funding AssessmentOptional

    From CAD $399

A written review of relevant opportunities, published eligibility requirements, supporting documents, deadlines and recommendations.

  2. B. Application Engagement

    Quoted per scope

Preparation, review or strengthening of a specific application — narrative, budget and supporting materials as the work requires.

  3. C. Ongoing / Fractional Advisory

    Custom

Continuing funding research, applications, pipeline and deadline management for organizations that need support over time.

Scope and price are agreed in writing before work begins, and each engagement covers only what is agreed.

Why Northward

Funding advice grounded in financial analysis

Northward Grants is a founder-led practice that combines financial analysis, funding research and hands-on application development. We focus on what makes an application credible: eligibility, realistic budgets, supporting documentation and a clear account of how the funding will be used.

  • Funding strategy
  • Funding research
  • Financial analysis
  • Budget development
  • Application development
  • Documentation & coordination
  • Ongoing advisory

Finance is built in

Budgets, forecasts, and use-of-funds schedules are part of the work — not an add-on you source elsewhere. Applications here are built the way an analyst builds a case: the numbers carry the argument.

Advice you can act on

Assessments end in a recommendation, not a maybe. Apply, wait, or don't — with the reasoning on paper, and the next step clear either way.

Built for the full cycle

Strategy, application, financials, and post-award reporting under one roof — so each award sets up the next application rather than complicating it.

How we charge

Transparent engagements. Clearly defined scope and fees before work begins.

Depending on the engagement, services may be offered through fixed project fees, ongoing retainers or other mutually agreed structures, subject to applicable funding-program rules and professional standards. Funding decisions rest with the funder — no outcome is ever guaranteed.

Discuss your project with an advisor.

A brief introductory call is enough to tell you whether deeper research makes sense — and what the path would look like from there.
